hi, doees anyone have an opinion on dog racing? now i know first off that when an animal is used for profit its welfare is not of major concern as long as it continues to make the money. is it right ot keep dogs (naturally curious, bright creatures) locked up their whole lives and then raced to the point of exhaustion and then put down when no longer able to race? and the same goes for horse racing? what do you think? thanks.

You do not know what you are talking about, they are not put down after they have finished racing. There are many homes for retired greyhounds where they are cared for very low.

as long as they are taken care of well, no! They love to run and its not the racing part that can sometimes be cruel, its just when there are huge kennels or something, that does not treat the dogs well. Or keeping them in any kennel an extended period of time. And the same things for horse racing. One thing that I don't like about racing though is when they don't keep the dogs after their racing days.

there is a massive movement to save off the track greyhounds. other than that i don't know enough about the sport to have a valid opinion.

and race horses are not locked up their whole lives or put down when no longer able to race. yes, there are some horror stories and bad things do happen, but generally, the average race horse will go on to lead a normal horse life after their career is over.

Greyhounds love racing. The one thing which is a joy about greyhound racing is that they are flat out from the start, so there is no "messing about." They are extremely well looked after when they are in training and make exceedingly good pets when they retire from that sport. There are more horror stories about children than there are about greyhounds and racehorses.

as long as the dog is in good condition, it's not. it would be cruel if the dog was forced by the owner.
