Who was the better racehorse-Secretariat or Frankel?

There seems to be an ongoing debate about these two horses. Some say Secretariat was the best while others say Frankel is the best in the whole world (how?) What are your opinions? And if they were to have a match race or something who would win? Please try to explain your opinion :)

Even though this is something we will never know... it still would depend on a lot of things, distance being one of them, surface, etc.. Secretariat was a machine, a physical freak. The dimensions of Secretariat's heart were enormous which allowed the blood flow and oxygen to his lungs to be unusually high, plus helping Secretariat's success was having a super-economical/ excessive or superior power and long stride. Stride efficiency and heart size allowed Secretariat to run at abnormally faster speeds then normal horses. The fact stands that Secretariat's world record of 2:24 on the dirt in the Belmont Stakes has never been broken under any conditions, at any racetrack anywhere in the world, and is what all other great horses fight for but can't quite get there including Frankel.



Sparks are sure to fly if one disrespects someones greatest over the other. Frankel will be remembered for sure as one of horse racings greatest stars, as he very well should. With that, stating that he's the 'greatest' star would not be fair to all the greats who passed the greatest of all challenges test would it? Most of us can say that in our lifetime we haven't see a horse like Secretariat. For 40 years now nothing (so far) has changed that. Bias some will say, well maybe. As a world horse racing enthusiast, I Loved watching that Frankel. To be in the category of the greatest, a horse has to face the greatest challenges as Secretariat & Frankel did, so when we do a compare, always compare their challenges. It's the only fair way to rank the status 'greatest racehorse of all time'.. if you do that you will know right then and there. I obviously would pick Secretariat, however, comparing great race horses of today, to great race horses in the past might be amongst the most futile of arguments. This is just my opinion based on facts but not proven. Either way neither horse has anything to prove :)

Then Secretariat, Now Frankel. The debate will continue since there is no real way to prove otherwise. Anything can happen in a horse race. Let's face it a horse may want to run one day and not the other..so who's to say that wouldn't be the case at any given time. The only thing here is Secretariat's record has not been broken.. so he is clearly the better of the two as far as that. His career was shorter too.

i think its hard to compare these horses because they are from different time periods, & raced on different surfaces.

Secretariat was spectacular on dirt AND turf.

however, i think Frankel is one of the greatest turf horses of all time.



a match on turf, i think it would be nearly a dead heat, but i think Secretariat would come out in front. he was a monster, & nothing could stop him.
